THINGS ABOUT TURKEY WORTHY TO KNOW

Like everybody knows travels teach us. Being in other country we have an opportunity to get to know a lot about its culture, traditions, history and general facts.

Here I want to list some INTERESTING THINGS about Turkey which I got to know mainly thanks to the guide during our trip to Cappadocia and generally due to my observations

1.THE EAST PART OF TURKEY IS MORE EUROPEAN. THE WEST PART IS MORE ISLAMIC &RESTRICTIVE

What does it mean? In the east part of Turkey- where I spent majority of my holidays, so in ALANYA for instance - the culture and people's behaviour is more european, turkish girls wear shorts and tops like girls in the whole world during the summer, tourists who are walking half-naked are also nothing suprising and turkish people rather don't find it "offensive".

Different situation is in the west part. When we were on our trip in Cappadocia there was so hot, but I saw no woman and NO MAN (usually men have this "right" to show their bodies) showing their legs. And chest as well. People wearing jeans in such weather here in Europe would be something unusual. Moreover I was feeling rather perplexed and abashed when I was wearing denim shorts and showing cleavage. Showing a lot of your body, you really catch other's people eye, which is REALLY ANNOYING.

So when you go to the west part of Turkey bear in mind taking with you some shawl to cover some parts of your body....ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GO SIGHTSEEING TO A MOSQUE!

2.TURKISH PEOPLE ARE WITTY, FUNNY, SMILY AND REALLY OPEN. SO CHEER UP AND CHILL IF YOU WANT TO GET ON WELL WITH THEM :)

That's my opinion based on observations. Being on holidays in Turkey, you shouldn't waste your time for bad mood ! Don't be too serious. Laugh, joke and have fun with wonderful Turkish !

3. THE WAY HOW TURKISH PRISONS FUNCION

I heard it from our guide and I find it really interesting. In Turkey prisoners are not supported financially by the government but.... by their families. If a family can't afford to support them, then they have to earn their living ! How? For example they plant trees and do many other kinds of work which the country need. For habitants of Europe it is totally unusual thing. Moreover the worse crime a criminal committed the deeper in the prison he will be... That means that the worst criminals in Turkey have almost no light in their cages because they are deep in the ground... Sounds scary, doesn't it?

4. MEN DOMINATE

It's very easy to see...

BARMANS (in the hotel or in the town) : only Turkish men
WAITERS: (in the hotel or in the town): only Turkish men
SHOP ASSISTANTS: Turkish men ( Probably I saw one woman ...)
BUS DRIVERS: only Turkish men

On the street you can see a lot of men spending time sipping a tea...

It was something new for me being in the street in the evening, passing a lot of bars/restaurants where only men are working. In Europe situation is totally different. Nowadays in Poland even women are driving buses...

It is sad for me that women have in Turkey less rights. I hope that will change......

I haven't added this picture so far.. that presents very famous "turkish" tea in very distinctive glasses. I think it's a kind of "obsession". I saw a lot of men (again: only man) sipping this tea in the street.

It's very good by the way:)

5. THEY PROBABLY DRINK LESS ALCOHOL THAN EUROPEANS

It's an opinion based on my observations- I saw no drunk turkish people (I must admit that was a holiday season) on the beach, street etc. Maybe it was because of ramadan which was during a few days of our vacation and in this time Islam bans drinking alcohol.

So many things to say and too less time for it, thank you and goodbye!
